Privacy policy

All About Pets Directory (“we”, “us”), operated by 1516410 B.C. LTD. in British Columbia, Canada, is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This policy describes how we handle information on this website.

Information we collect

• Account information: when you create an account, your email address and any name you provide (managed through our authentication provider, Supabase).
• Saved items & preferences: the animals and organizations you save, so we can show them back to you.
• Provider claims: if you claim a listing, the contact details and messages you submit for verification.
• Payment information: if you purchase a paid feature, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number.
• Usage analytics: privacy-friendly measurement of how the site is used (via Vercel Analytics and PostHog), such as pages visited, searches, clicks, and replays of browsing sessions with anything you type masked out. Analytics use a random identifier stored in your browser, never a cookie, and we do not use them to build advertising profiles. Listed rescues see totals for their own listing, never individual visitors; how we count explains exactly what they see.
• Email engagement: emails you have opted into record deliveries and link clicks (via Resend) so we can see which updates help and improve what we send. We do not record whether you opened an email, and we do not use any of this to build advertising profiles.
• Directory content: listing information sourced from publicly available pages, which is public directory data rather than your personal information.

How we use your information

• To provide and operate the site (accounts, saved items, claims, search).
• To process payments and provide paid features you request.
• To send email you've opted into (for example, Saved-pet updates), via our email provider, Resend.
• To understand and improve how the site is used, in aggregate.
• To protect the service against abuse and to meet legal obligations.

Consent

We collect and use your information with your consent, given when you create an account, save items, submit a claim, or subscribe to email. You may withdraw consent at any time (see Your rights), subject to legal or contractual limits.

Sharing & service providers

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the site: currently Supabase (accounts, database), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Vercel (hosting and analytics), PostHog (usage analytics), Google (signing in with Google, and the search box when you type a town or address), and Anthropic (an automated safety check on photos people upload). They process it on our behalf under their own safeguards. We may also disclose information where required by law.

Where your information is stored

Our service providers store and process personal information outside Canada, mainly in the United States. While it is there, it may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that country. We remain responsible for your information and choose providers that protect it to a standard comparable to Canada's.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies needed for the site to function (for example, keeping you signed in). Our analytics set no cookies; they use a random identifier stored in your browser, which you can remove at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify the personal information associated with it within a reasonable period.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may withdraw consent or unsubscribe from email at any time. To make a request, contact us at hello@allaboutpetsdirectory.com.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard it.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
